Kanya Maha Vidyalaya- the Autonomous and Heritage Institution, Ranked No. 1 College in Punjab and Top National Rankings by India Today Survey- 2021  celebrated National Handloom Day by organising a webinar. The celebration was organised by PG Department of Fashion Designing. Prof. Deepak John Mathew, Professor & Head, IIT Hyderabad was the resource person for the webinar. averred that Design and Science must support ‘hastkala’ to bring prosperity to Handloom artisans. We must also support them in marketing techniques so that the cottage industry gets its due. She further maintained that P. G Department of Fashion Designing of KMV is undertaking initiatives to promote the traditional crafts. Prof. Mathew addressing the students explained the importance & significance of Handloom Day to each participant. He further said that Handloom sector is the second most important sector providing employability to the rural population. He eulogised the contribution of the artisans and encouraged each one to adopt and wear handlooms every day of the week. He said that he has worked at the grassroots level with the Pochanpally workers and appealed that each teacher should encourage their students to work with the handloom artisans and support them. On this occasion Mr Love Kumar, a practitioner of Pochanpally whose forefathers and family is the first to start Pochanpally joined the webinar as esteemed guest . Mr. Love Kumar said that he is now the CEO of a Handloom park in Hyderabad which is offering vocation to 50,000 families involved in this craft. He elaborated that they  are earning as much as a software engineer as they hold various national and international exhibitions. After the webinar, question and answer session was also held in which inquisitive participants asked their queries from the resource person. Madam Principal lauded the efforts of Dr Harpreet Kaur, Head, PG Department of Fashion Designing for successfully organising the webinar.
