KMV Organises 2 Day DBT Sponsored Webinar &Virtual Visit to Tata Institute of Fundamental Research Labs

Kanya Maha Vidyalaya- the Heritage & Autonomous institution, Seat of Women Empowerment with Top National and State Rankings by India Today Survey of Best Colleges 2020 (various categories) & Outlook Magazine organised 2 days DBT Sponsored Webinar and Virtual Visit to Tata Institute of Fundamental Research Labs. The webinar was organised by the PG Department of Physics. The webinar was attended by more than 200 students with full zeal & enthusiasm. Dr. Venu Gopal Achanta, Professor, Department of Condensed Matter Physics & Materials Science, Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Mumbai was the resource person.Dr. Venu Gopal during the first day enlightened the students with the  introduction of spectroscopy and suggested the books which are highly recommended for students. He discussed that spectroscopy is a powerful tool to study various processes inside the matter. Dr Venu Gopal’s explained the different kinds of light sources used to excite the samples and the various measurement techniques like differential reflection and differential transmission. On Second day of DBT sponsored 2 days of webinar and virtual visit of TIFFR Lab, students got an opportunity to have a virtual visit to TIFR spectroscopy lab having number of optical instruments. Dr Venu Gopal showed Helium-Cadmium Laser (HeCd) which is a gas laser, similar in operation to a helium neon laser. He gave an experimental demonstration for making students more clear about the concept. Students also experienced Transmission reflection setup and its operation. He also showed setups where we can do reflection transmission spectro measurement and LED higher end setup. It was overall a great learning experience for students. They saw so many sophisticated instruments under one roof. Principal Prof Dr Atima Sharma Dwivedi averred that the students are really lucky to have such an amazing exposure at this age and this kind of interaction should be a regular feature for the students. She further maintained that this kind of activities are a great learning exposure and memorable experience for students as well as for teachers. Madam Principal lauded the efforts of Mrs Parminder Cheema, Head, PG Department of Physics, Dr Neetu Chopra and all the faculty members for successfully organising the event.
