The college has taken a very superlative initiative of organising an International Series where the eminent personalities from around the world concerning various diverse fields are invited to deliver a lecture. PG Department of Mathematics organised Mathematics Chapter of KMV International series on the topic  “Using Mathematical models to inform Public Health policies”. Dr. Abhishek Pandey, Associate Director and Research Scientist, Centre for Infectious Disease Modelling and Analysis, Yale School of Public Health, USA was the resource person. Dr. Pandey commenced his lecture by introducing concept of mathematical modelling and its relevance to the real life. He gave more emphasis on Epidemiology which being a cornerstone of the public health, deals with the incidence and pervasiveness of diseases in large populations. He talked about detection of the sources of the infection, in particular EBOLA and COVID-19, their causes and preventive measures against them. Further, he also introduced the Mathematical models that are very significant means for predicting, analysing and controlling an epidemic spread. He introduced the reproductive number to the students as a crucial tool to understand the disease spread pattern and need of introducing preventive public health interference measures including quarantine, vaccination at right stage to minimise disease progression. Students showed keen interest in the entire session and asked relevant questions regarding modelling techniques, its validations and relevance of disease parameters. Principal Prof. (Dr.) AtimaSharma Dwivedi averred that the session was highly influential and will help the students to dive deeper in the fields of Mathematics and its application.
