The 11th National Handloom Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm by the Postgraduate Department of Fashion Designing at Kanya Maha Vidyalaya (KMV), Jalandhar. The event highlighted the importance of promoting Swadeshi, supporting the handloom industry, and emphasizing sustainability in fashion and design.
In her address, Principal Prof. Dr. Atima Sharma Dwivedi spoke about KMV’s ongoing efforts to popularize handloom and handicrafts. She stressed the need to support artisans, who not only contribute to the nation’s economy but also play a vital role in preserving and reviving India’s rich cultural heritage. She further emphasized the role of sustainable practices in the handloom industry, encouraging everyone to make conscious choices that promote eco-friendly and sustainable fashion.
Prof. Dwivedi also spoke about KMV’s commitment to empowering emerging designers as entrepreneurs by equipping them with essential fashion design skills. These skills, she explained, enable students to thrive in an era focused on self-reliance, competition, and sustainability. She commended Dr. Harpreet, Chairperson of the Fashion Designing Department, and the entire faculty for their efforts in organizing and celebrating this significant day with a focus on both tradition and sustainability.
