KMV revives Cultural Legacy with a Grand Folk Heritage Celebration

Event Date

February 17, 2026

The college campus came alive as the event was hosted at its beautifully curated in-house ‘Virsa Ghar’

Kanya Maha Vidyalaya (Autonomous)organized a grand Folk Heritage Celebration under the aegis of the PG Department of Punjabi, aimed at reconnecting students with the rich cultural roots of Punjab. The heritage house ‘Virsa Ghar’ on the campus was beautifully transformed into a traditional village setting where various cultural tableaus depicting rural life were presented with authenticity and creativity. While KMV continues to empower students academically, the institution also consistently makes dedicated efforts to preserve and promote language, literature, culture and heritage among the young generation. The celebration witnessed enthusiastic participation from students in a variety of traditional competitions including ‘saag’ cutting, corn bread (makkidi roti) making, ‘seviyan’ preparation, embroidery, folk games and folk song competitions. A live demonstration of a traditional chulha with roti-making, hand embroidery, knitting and other craft activities added charm to the event. The highlight of the programme was the vibrant Gidda performance and soulful folk singing presented by the students dressed in colorful traditional attire, reflecting the true spirit of Punjab. The participants also proudly showcased their handmade creations and traditional preparations to the dignitaries and faculty members. Director Prof. Dr. Atima Sharma Dwivedi graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Addressing the gathering, she emphasised that a person who remains connected with his or her heritage roots attains true progress and success. She encouraged students to stay deeply rooted in their language, literature, culture and traditions. She congratulated the PG Department of Punjabi and PG Department of Music for the successful organization of the programme. She also distributed prizes to the winning students and extended her best wishes for their bright future.
