REPORT
Kanya MahaVidyalaya (Autonomous), Jalandhar organized a week-long series of activities from February 23 to February 28, 2026 to celebrate and promote the role and importance of the Indian Knowledge System (IKS). The programme was conducted under the SAARTHI Activity, aiming to create awareness among students about India’s rich intellectual traditions and their relevance in contemporary society. The initiative encouraged students to explore indigenous knowledge traditions in areas such as philosophy, science, culture, health, and ethics.
The week-long programme began with an introductory session highlighting the concept, scope, and relevance of the Indian Knowledge System in modern education. Faculty members explained how India’s ancient traditions in fields such as Ayurveda, Yoga, mathematics, astronomy, environmental ethics, and philosophy continue to inspire global knowledge systems today. Students were encouraged to understand how traditional wisdom can contribute to sustainable development, holistic education, and ethical living.
Throughout the week, various academic and creative activities were organized to engage students actively. These activities included group discussions and interactive sessions focusing on different aspects of the Indian Knowledge System. Students enthusiastically participated in these activities and expressed their views on the significance of ancient Indian thinkers, traditional education systems like Gurukul, and the scientific contributions of ancient scholars.
Special emphasis was placed on connecting traditional knowledge with contemporary issues, such as environmental protection, sustainable lifestyles, and mental well-being. Students discussed how practices like Yoga, meditation, and traditional ecological knowledge can help address modern challenges such as stress, climate change, and social imbalance. The activities also highlighted the role of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 in promoting the integration of Indian Knowledge Systems into modern curricula.
The programme was successfully coordinated and conducted by Dr. Madhumeet, Dr. Monika Rani, Dr. Iqbal Singh and Dr. Prabha, who guided the students throughout the week and ensured the smooth organization of all activities. At the conclusion of the programme, Madam Director Prof. (Dr.) Atima Sharma Dwivedi appreciated and applauded the dedicated efforts of Dr. Madhumeet, Dr. Monika Rani, Dr. Iqbal Singh and Dr. Prabha for successfully organizing the week-long celebration. She emphasized that such initiatives play a vital role in reviving awareness about India’s intellectual heritage and encouraging students to take pride in their cultural roots. She also motivated students to continue exploring the wisdom embedded in Indian traditions and apply it in their personal and professional lives.Dr AshimaSahni, Dr Davinder Singh, Dr Ekta, Dr Iqbal Singh &Mr Sehajpal Singh were the resource persons for the event. Overall, the week-long celebration of the Indian Knowledge System proved to be a meaningful and educational initiative. It not only enhanced students’ understanding of India’s rich heritage but also encouraged them to recognize the importance of integrating traditional knowledge with modern education. The programme successfully fostered intellectual curiosity, cultural awareness, and academic engagement among students, making it a memorable and impactful learning experience.
