Kanya Maha Vidyalaya (Autonomous) Department of Home Science, Nutrition and Dieteticsorganized an educational industrial visit to Raj Durrie Weaving Unitto provide students with hands-on exposure to traditional and modern weaving practices. The visit aimed to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical understanding, especially in the field of textile production and weaving process. During the visit, students closely observed the complete process of durrie weaving and gained valuable first-hand experience. This comprehensive exposure enabled them to understand the evolution of weaving technology from traditional manual methods to semi-mechanized and mechanized systems. The demonstration of weaving through handlooms as well as machine looms enhanced their understanding of intricate pattern development in textile design. The use of shoddy yarns, emphasized the role of sustainability and resource optimization in textile production. Students learned how these yarns are processed and utilized in creating durable and aesthetically appealing durries. The visit also shed light on the labor-intensive nature of the craft. Students appreciated the skill, precision, and effort required at each stage of weaving, fostering a deeper respect for artisans and traditional craftsmanship.Such experiential learning opportunities play a crucial role in enhancing students’ academic growth and professional readiness. The visit proved to be highly informative and inspiring, encouraging students to explore innovative applications of traditional techniques in modern textile design.Director Prof. Dr. Atima Sharma Dwivedi averred that the visit successfully fulfilled its objective of providing practical exposure and bridging the gap between theory and real-world applications.
