The PG Department of Computer Science & Applications of Kanya Maha Vidyalaya (Autonomous), Jalandhar, under the aegis of the Computer Club, organised an insightful expert talk on the topic “Role of Emerging Technologies in Smart Education.” The session was delivered virtually by Dr. Prabhdeep Singh, Department of Computer Science & Engineering, Graphic Era (Deemed to be University), Dehradun.
Dr. Prabhdeep began by emphasising the growing importance of Smart Education in today’s academic ecosystem. Using practical examples, he outlined the core components of smart education and highlighted how advanced tools and technologies are essential for enhancing the teaching-learning process. He explained that smart education focuses on constructive feedback mechanisms to assess student performance, make predictions, and provide targeted recommendations for improvement.
The resource person elaborated on four cutting-edge technologies — Internet of Things (IoT), Cloud Computing & Big Data, Machine Learning, and Fog Computing — explaining how each plays a vital role in creating intelligent and adaptive learning environments. He also discussed real-world applications of these technologies and encouraged students to develop small-scale demo projects to address real-life problems within college or university campuses using minimal resources.
A highlight of the session was Dr. Prabhdeep’s explanation of the interconnection between these four technologies, demonstrating how data seamlessly flows across different layers to create integrated and efficient educational solutions.
The session witnessed the enthusiastic participation of 168 students from the department, who actively engaged in the Q&A segment. Queries revolved around feasible and secure project ideas in IoT, Machine Learning, and Cloud Computing, to which the expert responded with practical guidance.
Worthy Principal, Prof. Dr. Atima Sharma Dwivedi, applauded the efforts of Dr. Suman Khurana, Head, PG Department of Computer Science & Applications, and Dr. Ravi Khurana, Incharge, Computer Club, for organising such a highly informative session. She encouraged the department to continue hosting expert talks that expose students to emerging technologies and industry trends, thereby strengthening their professional readiness.
