PG Department of Chemistry, Kanya Maha Vidyalaya- the Heritage and Autonomous Institution, Jalandhar organised a webinar on ‘Impact of stereochemistry on drug designing and development: Beyond the shape of the pill’ on 23^rd November, 2021. The  resource person for the webinar was Dr. Kamaldeep Paul, Professor, School of Chemistry and Biochemistry, Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology, Patiala. The aim of this event was to share the information and latest developments across the single-enantiomer formulation of medicines in distinct fields of stereochemistry. Dr. Paul described how the stereochemistry affects the activity and potency of the medicines towards various diseases. Moreover, he explained the methods of formation and resolution of stereoisomers,  which is very helpful for the researchers to synthesize efficient and potent drugs. He stressed upon the fact that only single isomer should be used in API synthesis according to US FDA policy. All the graduate and Post graduate students have enthusiastically participated in this event. Principal Prof. Atima Sharma Dwivedi appreciated the endeavour taken by the PG Department of Chemistry adding that it should be a regular feature in the curriculum.
