KMVites gain industry insights during a High-Impact cinematic workshop on The Art of Storytelling

Event Date

February 3, 2026

Kanya Maha Vidyalaya (Autonomous) PG Department of Journalism & Mass Communication organized a high-impact workshop titled “The Art of Storytelling” in association with Sony India. This intensive session was specifically curated to sharpen the narrative skills of aspiring media professionals by introducing them to industry-standard techniques and advanced visual communication. The workshop served as a vital platform for students to understand the shift from traditional reporting to modern, cinematic storytelling in the digital age. The workshop was led by the distinguished resource person, Mr. Sameer Ashraf, a prominent international photographer and expert from Sony India. Mr. Ashraf’s session transcended basic camera operations, focusing instead on the deep-rooted connection between photography, videography, and the aesthetics of art. He meticulously explained how technical parameters like depth of field, lighting ratios, and frame composition are not merely settings but essential tools for conveying emotion and narrative depth. By blending technical rigor with creative vision, he demonstrated how a creator can turn a simple visual into a powerful story. Throughout the interactive workshop, students were given the opportunity to explore the synergy between technical precision and artistic expression. Mr. Ashraf highlighted that the true “Art of Storytelling” lies in the ability to attach aesthetic value to every shot, ensuring that the visual language resonates with the audience. This collaboration with Sony India reflects KMV’s ongoing commitment to bridging the gap between academia and the media industry, providing students with the hands-on experience necessary to excel in a competitive global landscape. Prof Atima Sharma Dwivedi averred that these kind of workshops play a pivotal role in making the students more professional and skill based in their respective fields. She also lauded the efforts of Mr. Sehajpal Singh, Head, PG Department of Journalism & Mass Communication for successfully organising the workshop.
