Hostel – An Extension Centre of Academic Activity

Founded in I886, KMV boarding house, ‘Kanya Ashram’, as it was popularly called, is situated within the precincts of the college. The hostel building consists of four hostel wings- Savitri Bhawan, Rai Bahadur Badri Das Hostel, Saraswati Bhawan and New Hostel. Located in lush green and eco-friendly surroundings, the hostel has a provision of accommodation for about 800 girl students.

Aiming at all-round personality development, our mission is to develop right skills, positive attitude, leadership qualities along with a sense of discipline, dedication to duty and commitment in every student. In pursuit of excellence in all spheres of human activity, hostel life provides the boarders umpteen opportunities to enjoy not only a sense of togetherness but to become awakened and empowered individuals so that they may actively respond to the momentous issues of society and socio- political environment of the world.     Reputed for its intellectual vigour and homely ambience, KMV hostel offers elaborate arrangements to provide academically conducive, economically affordable accommodation with closely monitored/ guarded security system. Furnished with state-of-the-art infrastructure, the Institution provides all modern amenities to the boarders such as water coolers, solar system, T.V, LCD Projector, newspapers. Spacious and airy rooms are fitted with a ceiling fan and a tube light each. In order to ensure pure, uncontaminated and uninterrupted water supply, filters and purifiers have been installed. Whitewashing of rooms and cleaning of lavatories is a regular feature to maintain proper cleanliness and hygienic conditions. Sprawling playgrounds within the campus for the daily practice of our budding sports stars is another feature in our endeavour to facilitate life in the hostel. Personal attention and care is given by the Principal and the staff with frequent visits to the hostel to ensure an atmosphere of mutual adjustability and emotional security conducive for personality development of the resident scholars.

    To foster moral values and a sense of respect for our culture among the boarders, prayer meetings are held in the evenings. Havan is also performed in Yagyashala every Sunday besides other important festive days.

    An association of boarders offers a host of opportunities to the inmates to explore and chisel their latent talents in co-curricular activities through various cultural programmes and competitions organised from time to time. All major festivals and annual functions like Golden Night and Silver Night are celebrated with gusto. One day excursions are an all-time favourite feature with the residents. As an institution, we at KMV are fully conscious of our role and responsibility in guiding our youth and channelizing their bubbling energies in positive direction. We are committed to provide an invigorating ambience of academic fiesta and cultural ethos with emotional warmth and physical comfort to our young scholars. The desired end, however, without the co-operation of parents and guardians is not possible to achieve. Therefore parents are requested to keep in touch with the authorities – the Principal and the Hostel Warden and keep themselves informed of the conduct and progress of their wards in the college as well as in the hostel.

    Mess

    Hygienic mess with a spacious dining hall, attached with a modern kitchen equipped with latest gadgets, has an absolutely healthy environment. The food served is tasty nourishing, balanced and purely vegetarian. Rations and vegetables used are of exceptional quality. To maintain proper quality and hygienic conditions, food is inspected daily by the hostel authorities. Regular checks of water and kitchen hygiene are done personally by the Principal.

    Health Care

    Physical well-being and healthcare of the boarders is one of the primary concerns of the authorities. Special medical facilities are provided to the students at all hours through a resident nurse. In case of major ailment, the resident is referred to a specialist at janta Hospital (situated opposite the college) and parents are informed accordingly. A provision has been made for a daily doctor-in-attendance from 3 .00 pm to 6.00 pm for consultation.

    Other Facilities
    • Special coaching classes are held for resident scholars on demand
    • Students preparing for Competitive exams are allowed to go out for coaching classes only on the authority of their parents. Transport and other arrangements will be made at individual level by the parents/guardians only.
    • For- the convenience of the boarders, numerous ,facilities likeBookshop, Bank and Canteen are available in the premises only.
    • Along with the facility of washing machines, a special arrangement of tailor and washer man has been made.
    •  There are three STD booths operational in the hostel to facilitate the residents between 10.00 am to 6.00 pm.

    • Cubicle facility is available exclusively for merit scholars.

    • Expert fitness guidance is provided to the boarders by a fitness trainer for two hours daily in the health club.
    • Regular medical check-ups are conducted from time to time.
    • Yoga camps are also organised to train the resident students in meditation and concentration to enhance their mental health and abilities.
    • Special facility of a counsellor for the boarders to cope up with stress and age- related problems of the youngsters is also provided.
    • Resident teachers staying in the boarding house regularly help the hostel students with their studies. Special facilities like Computer, Internet Connectivity etc. are provided to the students seeking to appear for competitive examinations.
    • Students can make use of the college library late in the evening till 7.00pm.
    • A provision has been made for air-cooled/ air-conditioned rooms to beat the heat which residents can avail at the payment of extra charges on first-cum-first- served basis.
    • There is a provision of special food for the students who fast on different days.
    • For recreational purpose, special movie shows on LCD projectors are organised and celebration of all major festivals like Diwali, Holi, Lohri, Gurupurab etc. is held in a family-like atmosphere.

     

  • Rules for Boarders

    Rules for Boarders
    • The Principal / members of the hostel committee/ Dean Resident Life will inspect the hostel frequently.
    • Allotment of rooms is done by the warden in consultation with the Principal.
    • A boarder may be asked to leave the hostel if the hostel fee is pending for more than a month.
    • A boarder may be expelled from the hostel if she stays away from the hostel without permission or is negligent in studies or is found guilty of misconduct. Any boarder found guilty of creating restlessness/misguiding/negatively influencing other boarders will be liable for disciplinary action.
    • Lights must be switched off when not in use. Students found keeping the lights on when absent from the room will be fined as per rules.
    • Use of any kind of electric appliance like Heater, Rod, Iron etc. is not allowed.  Disciplinary action will be taken against the defaulter.
    • All reports of theft etc. (if any) should be made to the warden immediately. The residents are advised to keep their belongings under lock and key. They will not keep expensive jewellery or heavy cash.
    • Shouting, hooting, violent knocking or any other misconduct that is likely to cause disturbance is strictly prohibited. There shall be no loud discussion or chatting in the verandas at any hour of the day or night. Use of mobile phones and talking on phone must be avoided inside rooms so that room mates are not disturbed.
    • Boarders are to concentrate only on their studies during fixed study hours.
    • Taps of the bath-rooms, toilets etc. should always be turned off after use
    • Residents are prohibited to tamper with electric and sanitary installations. If found guilty, the cost of the repairs will be realised from the students, in addition to a fine for negligence.
    • All cases of sickness should be reported to the resident nurse or hostel warden or to the student incharge of Hostel Dispensary.
    • Though adequate security checks are provided by the institution, still if any boarder leaves the campus, breaking the rules of the institution or tricking the authorities, the institution will not be held responsible for it. If any mis-happening occurs while misusing electricity or any other act of indiscipline of any boarder leading to a mishap, the responsibility will lie on the parents/guardians of the defaulter. The authorities may even expel her from the hostel or college if she does not abide by the rules.
    • In case of any misuse or usage of the cell phone for purposes other than the genuine, the college authorities shall not be responsible in any manner what so ever and for any consequences that may occur due to such misuse of the cell phone.
    • Six cash prizes of Rs. 500/- each will be given to the best social worker of the year.
    Hostel Prayer

    It is compulsory for the boarder to attend the evening prayers and attendance.

    Correspondence of Boarders
    • All correspondence of the boarders must pass through the hands of the Principal/warden. Serious action will be taken against the boarder who posts or receives letters through other sources.
    • Use of Mobile Phone Timing:
    • In study hours do not disturb roommates.
    • In study hours room wise attendance taken by wardens.
    Mess
    • Vegetarian meals are served in the dining hall at fixed hours. Late comers will not be served food.
    • Student members of the Mess Committee are to meet at least once a month.
    • Mess charges are to be paid by the 10th of every month.
    • The college will reserve the right to withdraw or change any residential facility and to revise fee or any other charges prescribed for the purpose of availing any residential facility.
    • Unless otherwise specified residential facilities once chosen like air conditioned facility etc. will not be changed during the academic session.
    • The students will not paste any poster or painting on the walls of the rooms or at other places in and outside residential premises.
    • The college will reserve the right to carry inspection if the student room, bags, Almirah or any of personal belongings at any time during day and/or night.
    • If a student does not join/report the college within a week after the scheduled start of session, the residential facility already allotted to her may be de-allotted.
    • For minor ailments medical facility is provided by the College. A visiting doctor and residential nurse are provided in the hostel. In case of any advanced/specialised requirement of treatment parents will be responsible. In case of any serious ailment/accidental happenings the college authorities will not be held responsible.
    • Student should prior inform about any chronic disease.
    • Hostel authorities will not be responsible for any accidental injuries/mishaps.
    Dress
    • The resident students are expected to dress simply and modestly in keeping with the traditions of the college. They are not allowed to wear gaudy or unbecoming clothes. They have to follow the idea of ‘Simple Living and High Thinking. All boarders should be formally and properly dressed when they come to college side from boarding house.
    • Students are allowed to enter the dining hall only if they are decently and properly dressed.
    Day-Scholars

    Day scholars are not allowed to visit the hostel except with the written permission of a teacher/Warden. A boarder who invites or allows a day scholar to visit her in the hostel will be fined.

    Visitors
    • A person whose name and signature is not given in the list can meet the student only if he brings a letter of permission from the student’s Father/Guardian, with attestation of his signature.
    • Visitor card to be kept with parents only.
    • Time period for making a visitor card will be 2 months only.
    • The Principal can, at her discretion, disallow a person named in the list to visit a student.
    • No boarder is allowed to meet a visitor, male or female, without the permission of the warden. Severe action   will be taken against a boarder disobeying this order.
    • Relatives of the boarders who themselves are students will not be allowed to act as local guardians of the boarders.
    Visiting Days / Timings

    Saturdays – 2.00 P.M. to 6.00 P.M.
    Sundays – 9.00 A.M. to 6.00 P.M.

    Note: Approved visitors including parents are allowed to visit the Boarders on Saturdays and Sundays only.

    Rules for Leave from the Hostel
    • Permission to stay out with approved local or out-station relatives will not be granted more than once a month including vacations.
    • Permission to take leave from the hostel should be obtained (on prescribed leave form) from the warden at least two days before availing leave. If leave is required on a working day, it should be obtained from the Principal after obtaining the warden’s recommendation in writing.
    •  The Principal / warden should be approached for leave during hours fixed for the purpose.
    • No boarder shall be allowed to leave the hostel alone to visit her local relatives.
    • Boarders absenting themselves from the hostel without prior permission from the warden are liable   to be fined or punished, may be even in the form of expulsion from the hostel.
    • A boarder, before leaving the hostel for short or long period, shall enter the timings of her departure and arrival.
    • A boarder, on leave from the hostel, must be back on the day her leave expires by 6.00 PM.
    • The residents will be allowed to leave the hostel only on the days of commencement of Autumn and Winter breaks and the saturday falling after 21 days when their leave is due.
    • After a long vacation, all resident students are required to be back in the hostel on the eve of the re-opening of the college. Permission for joining late will be granted only on medical grounds. Defaulters shall be fined as per rules and regulations.
    • The boarders shall maintain their Record Book properly.
    • Any problem/complaint regarding hostel/mess/book shop should be brought to the notice of the hostel committee.
    • Cultural activities will be organised by the Youth Club. No function can be organised without the prior permission of the Principal. The Youth Club will celebrate the following festivals – Dussehra, Diwali, Lohri, Basant, Holi and Gurupurab.
    • No accounts should be opened either in the book shop or with the photographer.
    • Students willing to take up NCC as an option will be required to produce written permission from their parents.
    • Hostel Rules, College/Hostel dues are subject to change by the college authorities and such alteration shall be binding on all the students.
    • Changes (if any) in the above rules and regulations will be duly notified.

  • Permission to take leave from the hostel should be obtained (on prescribed leave form) from the warden at least two days before availing leave. If leave is required on a working day, it should be obtained from the Principal after obtaining the warden’s recommendation in writing.
  •  The Principal / warden should be approached for leave during hours fixed for the purpose.
  • No boarder shall be allowed to leave the hostel alone to visit her local relatives.
  • Boarders absenting themselves from the hostel without prior permission from the warden are liable   to be fined or punished, may be even in the form of expulsion from the hostel.
  • A boarder, before leaving the hostel for short or long period, shall enter the timings of her departure and arrival.
  • A boarder, on leave from the hostel, must be back on the day her leave expires by 6.00 PM.
  • The residents will be allowed to leave the hostel only on the days of commencement of Autumn and Winter breaks and the saturday falling after 21 days when their leave is due.
  • After a long vacation, all resident students are required to be back in the hostel on the eve of the re-opening of the college. Permission for joining late will be granted only on medical grounds. Defaulters shall be fined as per rules and regulations.
  • The boarders shall maintain their Record Book properly.
  • Any problem/complaint regarding hostel/mess/book shop should be brought to the notice of the hostel committee.
  • Cultural activities will be organised by the Youth Club. No function can be organised without the prior permission of the Principal. The Youth Club will celebrate the following festivals – Dussehra, Diwali, Lohri, Basant, Holi and Gurupurab.
  • No accounts should be opened either in the book shop or with the photographer.
  • Students willing to take up NCC as an option will be required to produce written permission from their parents.
  • Hostel Rules, College/Hostel dues are subject to change by the college authorities and such alteration shall be binding on all the students.
  • Changes (if any) in the above rules and regulations will be duly notified.

 

Admission Guidelines
