KMV organises an educational visit to Bhagwati Timber Traders

KanyaMahaVidyalaya (Autonomous) PG Department of Botany organized an educational visit to Bhagwati Timber Traders. Students from B.Sc. Medical and M.Sc. Botany explored the wholesale dealer of timber, where they learned about various types of timber, the preparation of seasoned wood and plywood, and their uses in making frames and furniture. Mr. Madhav from BhagwatiTraders provided detailed explanations about different types of wood, including their identification features, grain distribution, wood densityand their role in determining wood quality.The students learned about the importance of wood seasoning, different wood fibers, durability, and the process of moisture removal from wooden blocks. They also gained insight into chemicals used to protect wood from termite attacks. Additionally, students observed different imported varieties such as Canadian, Malaysian, and Russian timber and they were shown samples of various timber types, and they learned about the criteria for assessing timber quality, such as fiber presence, knots, and wood color (light or dark). The visit also included viewing Madhya Pradesh Timber (MPT), known for its durability and considered one of the best and expensive Indian timbers. Principal Prof. Atima Sharma Dwivedi averred that the visit will enhance the understanding of botany students and will provide them with a hands-on learning experience. Madam Principal lauded the efforts of PG Department of Botany for successfully organizing the trip.
