KMV organizes an educational field trip to Forest Research Institute, Dehradun and Mussoorie

KanyaMahaVidyalaya (Autonomous) PG Department of Botany & Zoology jointly organized an educational field trip to Mussoorie and Dehradun. The purpose of the trip was to provide students with an experiential learning opportunity outside the classroom environment, allowing them to engage with real-world examples related to their curriculum.During the trip, teachers shared their expertise pointing out various plant species and elucidating their ecological significance& also guided the students in identifying and documenting the different species of plants such as angiosperms, gymnosperms, pteridophytes and bryophytes encountered during excursion. Through lively discussions and hands-on activities, students enhanced theirunderstanding of plant morphology, ecologyand adaptation strategies.On the second day of excursion students visited Kempty Falls, a breathtaking natural wonder known for its cascading waters and verdant surroundings. Here, students collected specimens of different bryophytes, ferns, marveling at their intricate fronds and diverse forms. The collaborative efforts were truly commendable as students worked unitedly to collect and preserve these botanical treasures as herbarium.Students also visited Forest Research Institute which is famous for its botanical gardens, different research labs and museums related to forestry, environment and wood science. Students visited different museum in institute such as Timber Museum, Silviculture Museum, Non-Wood Forest Products Museum, Plant Pathology Museum and Entomology Museum. This kind of expedition provides them practical exposures to the curriculum and its potential to enhance students understanding through visiting different museums and research centers. After that, they also visited Robber’s Cave, a natural limestone formation adorned with lush vegetation. Principal Prof. Dr. Atima Sharma Dwivedi averred that such learning opportunities play a crucial role in honing the skills of the students in plant identification, ecological analysis and scientific inquiry, leaving them inspired and preparing them for success in academic and professional endeavors. Madam Principal lauded the efforts of PG Department of Botany& Zoology for successfully organizing the trip.
