Summary:

The Department of Science at Kanya Mahavidyalaya Jalandhar, in collaboration with KMV IIC, celebrates National Science Day annually to raise awareness of the value of science and its contributions to society.  Indigenous technologies for Viksit Bharat was the topic of this year’s National Science Day celebration.

Each year on February 28, India celebrates National Science Day in honor of scientist Sir Chandrasekhara Venkata Raman, sometimes known as C.V. Raman, who discovered the “Raman Effect.” The event provides a forum for recognizing and educating the public about the contributions made by the scientific community to the advancement of our country.

The event began with the lighting of the lamp, and our special guests, Dr. Rohit Mehra BR Ambedkar National Institute of Technology, Jalandhar, Er. Vishal Sharma, ChiefMentor, Innovation hub, Pushpa Gujral Science City Kapurthala, Principal ( Prof) Atima Sharma Dwivedi and all the heads of Departments under Science. Subsequently, the Science Anthem was used to honour science and technology.

Provost Dr. Atima Sharma Dwivedi greeted distinguished visitors. She said, “Science is important in our daily lives.” Prof. Mehra’s talk later. He taught pupils by doing fascinating, cutting-edge experiments.

Following Er. Sharma’s overview of the AI robots workshop. Er. Sharma also gave a demonstration of other circuit design approaches during this event.

Later, students performed a few cultural dances.

Students from surrounding schools were also invited on this historic occasion. The Department of Science hosted numerous competitions and activities. Students eagerly entered competitions to create posters and Rangolis.

Additionally, all of the Science departments had Innovation Stalls on this occasion, where students displayed a wide range of original experiments that they had designed. Students displayed their innovative demonstrations at the Innovation Stall, hosted by the Physics Department. These included models of stagnant water ejectors, Bluetooth cars, kliedoscopes, periscopes, resonators, and arrangements of plane mirrors. Students studying physics also planned a selfie with Sir CV Raman.

Students gained a lot of knowledge from this stall. The PG department of mathematics uses the topic “Mathematics for Viksit Bharat@2047” to commemorate National Science Day. The department set up a booth to highlight the value of mathematics in the following areas: data analytics, decision-making, education and skill development, health care and biotechnology, technological advancement, infrastructure development, economic planning and policy, and environmental sustainability.

Students of B.Sc. (Honours) Mathematics and M.Sc. (Mathematics) Mathematics prepare working models on Number System, Fraction, HCF and LCM, Pythagoras theorem, 3-D forms, Quadrilateral, and many more topics to pique the interest of students and visitors in mathematics. Students enrolled in a certificate program in Vedic mathematics created an application on the usage of Vedic mathematics sutras that non-mathematical students can use to master the fundamentals of addition, subtraction, and other mathematical operations with this Quick and simple methods. This application was created in order to realize the goal of the Viksit Bharat.

Department of Zoology, which also planned a blood type, blood pressure, and BMI/BMR checkup camp for students. The camp gave the KMV kids excellent exposure to health issues, and they participated enthusiastically in it.

Department of Chemistry demonstrated their scientific prowess through captivating experiments including Elephant Toothpaste, Secret Messages, Chemical Chameleon, Chemical Volcano, Power of Indicators, and various food adulteration experiments.

The demonstrations were a testament to the students’ ingenuity and passion for scientific exploration. Through these experiments, they not only showcased their understanding of scientific principles but also their creativity in applying them to real-world scenarios.

Different demonstrations were displayed by the students from the Department of Bio-Technology. These include Bioplastic and Bioenzyme which can be used as an inexpensive and healthy alternative to chemical based non-biodegradable plastic and floor cleaners. These demonstration, in particular, showed biotechnology empowered commercial products for public use and environmental conservation. Students also showed preparation of paper from banana, plant tissue culture for cultivating plants in labs, extraction of DNA from plant cells, determining presence of gluten in different flours including wheat, rice and bajra flour. These demonstrations ignited interest among audience towards the diversity in research and development in field of Bio-Technology.

Department of Botany showcased the diverse array of herbs and their medicinal properties, promote awareness of herbal remedies and their traditional uses, provide practical insights into incorporating herbs into everyday life, including culinary applications, foster appreciation for the cultural and historical significance of herbs across different societies and encourage sustainable practices in the cultivation and harvesting of herbs. Students also prepared their own herbal beauty kits including herbal made moisturizer, Hair solutions, face pack and mist.

At the end of the event, winners were facilitated with certificates and trophies.
