Kanya Maha Vidyalaya (Autonomous) in collaboration with PG Department of Zoology, PG Department of Mathematics and KMV Collegiate Sr. Sec. School, Jalandhar along with KMV NSS Unit celebrated World Environment Day in order to spread awareness about the environmental conservation and sustainability This year, reflecting upon the theme of World Environment Day i.e. “Ending Plastic Pollution Globally”, highlighting the urgent need for collective action to address the escalating issue of plastic waste, various events were organised to make students aware about the environment conservation. Students participated with full zeal and enthusiasm in the event to showcase their creativity. Under this, various activities were held. A plantation drive was organised and the students also took the pledge to keep the environment clean and plastic free. The students planted various useful medicinal and herbal plants like Neem, Amla, Tulsi, Peepal, Curry Leaf Tree etc. which help to release oxygen during night and keep the environment pollution free. Students were also given the demonstration of cloth bag stitching. Cloth bags serve as an environmentally sustainable alternative to plastic bags, and this initiative aims to equip students with vocational skills that promote eco-friendly practices. A Nukkad Natak, or street play, was also performed to raise awareness about the harmful effects of plastic waste and promote a plastic-free environment. The play, focused on the negative impacts of plastic on ecosystems, human health, and the planet, urged attendees to reduce single-use plastics, adopt sustainable alternatives, and practice proper waste disposal. Principal Prof. (Dr.) Atima Sharma Dwivedi congratulated the students for joining the cause and asked them to connect to such initiatives in future too. Madam Principal lauded the efforts of Dr. Madhumeet (Dean, Department of Student Welfare) and NSS Co-ordinators- Ms. Ashima Sahni, Dr. Sonik Bhatia and Ms. Anand Prabha for sensitizing the students and making the event a big success.
