KMV organises an educational visit to Crop Improvement Museum & Dr. Uppal Soil Science Museum of Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana

Kanya Maha Vidyalaya (Autonomous) P.G Department of Botany Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC) organised an educational visit to Punjab Agricultural University Ludhiana. Firstly, students visited Crop Improvement Museum where Dr. Saxena gave a detailed tour of the Department as well as Museum and explained about the history of crop improvement, different techniques used in plant breeding and how it helps in increasing the crop yield. Students learnt about different varieties of cereals, pseudocereals, legumes, cotton, mustard, flex, linseed etc. Students also visited Dr. Uppal Soil Science Museum where Dr. Vijaykant Singh, Pedologist from Department of Soil Sciences enlightened the students about museum, which was having six levels, the first three levels depict the soil as they occur in nature whereas the other three levels were related with soil fertility. The museum serves as a tool for teaching and research in the field of soil and water conservation, fertility management and soil resource inventory. In museum, students also learnt about the different rivers originated in India and how they enhance the soil fertility. Principal Prof. Dr. Atima Sharma Dwivedi lauded the efforts of the faculty members for organising such knowledge filled educational visit which give them exposure to different techniques used in plant breeding and genetics. The students were accompanied by three faculty members Mrs. Shikha Vashisht, Dr. Sandeep Kaur and Ms. Nisha from Botany department.
