KMV Organises National Online Workshop on Solid Waste Management

Prof. (Dr.) Vinod Kumar Garg, Dean, School of Environment and Earth Sciences, Central University of Punjab, Bathinda Graces the Occasion

 

Kanya Maha Vidyalaya- the Heritage & Autonomous institution, Seat of Women Empowerment with Top National and State Rankings by India Today Survey of Best Colleges 2020 (various categories) & Outlook Magazine organiseda one day onlinenational workshop onSolid WasteManagement under DBT Star College Status with an idea to create awareness among the students and faculty regarding the strategies and techniques used for solid waste management. The workshop was organised by PG Department of Chemistry. More than 600 students and faculty members from different states of India joined this online workshop. The eminent resource person for the workshop was Prof. (Dr.) Vinod Kumar Garg, Dean, School of Environment and Earth Sciences, Central University of Punjab, Bathinda. Dr Garg gave an overview about the various types of wastes and  methods to dispose different solid wastes like Pyrolysis, Vermicomposting, Biomethanation, Land Filling&Hog Feeding etc. He also discussed various techniques and statistics to segregate biodegradable and non-biodegradable wastes& gave an insight on the utilisation of resources from the waste materials such as fly ash in road making to provide high durability. He highlighted the current problem related to COVID-19 wastes like the disposal of masks, gloves, sanitisers and PPE kit that are contaminating our environment and effecting human health as well as aquatic life. He also threw light on various methods related to the management of this medical waste. During interactive session, students and faculty members showed a keen interest to learn more about various disposal techniques of solid waste and asked various queries from Dr Garg. Principal Prof. (Dr.) Atima Sharma Dwivedi averred that the workshop was highly influential and will help the students to delve deeper in the fieldof Chemistry and its application. Madam Principal lauded the efforts of allthe faculty members of PG Department of Chemistry for organising workshop on innovative and latest trends in Chemistry.
