These kinds of events engage students’ intellect with contemporary issues through artistic expression: Prof. Dr. Atima Sharma Dwivedi
Kanya Maha Vidyalaya (Autonomous) P.G. Department of Economics organized the Eco Echo Fest, focusing on contemporary economic and social issues—‘Brain Drain’ and ‘Atam nirbhar Bharat’—through two thought-provoking events: a Panel Discussion and Choreography. The event began with a floral felicitation of the chief guest, Principal Prof. Atima Sharma Dwivedi. Two choreographies were organized one on ‘Atam nirbhar Bharat,’ beautifully illustrating India’s journey toward self-reliance. These performances highlighted various aspects such as promoting indigenous industries, encouraging local talent, and the vision of building a stronger nation through unity and determination. The students used creative dance movements, symbolic formations, and expressive gestures to convey messages of empowerment and national pride. The second performance on Brain Drain depicted the journey of talented students and skilled workers migrating to advanced countries in search of better working conditions and higher salaries. The students also portrayed feelings of separation from the homeland and the call for creating better opportunities within the nation through expressive movements, formations, and symbolic use of music. There were nine choreographies, well appreciated for their creativity, coordination, and ability to raise awareness of such a significant socio-economic issue in a graceful and thought-provoking manner. In the panel discussion on brain drain, students discussed the causes, consequences, and possible solutions to the issue, which remains a major challenge in Punjab. They also talked about the negative effects on Punjab’s economy, such as the loss of skilled manpower, slower development, and dependence on foreign expertise. On the positive side, some student speakers highlighted brain gain through remittances, knowledge transfer, and global exposure, provided that strong policies are in place to maintain connections with the diaspora. The discussion ended with suggestions like improving employment opportunities, investing in research and innovation, and creating a supportive environment for young talent in India. There were 7 panel discussions on brain drain and 3 on the impact of US tariff policies on the Indian economy. Students from B.Sc. (Economics), M.Sc. (Economics), M.Com, M.B.A, B.Com, B.B.A, and M.Com (FYIP) participated with great enthusiasm. More than 200 students took part in this event with excitement and energy. Principal Prof. Dr. Atima Sharma Dwivedi lauded the students’ intellectual engagement with these contemporary issues through creativity and artistic expression. She averred that these kinds of activities make students better learners and also boost their confidence. She congratulated Mrs. Amarpreet Khurana, Head, PG Department of Economics, and the entire faculty of Economics for successfully organizing the event.
