A thought-provoking Panel Discussion on Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS) was organized on August 18, 2025 by SAARTHI Committee at Heritage Institution Kanya Maha Vidyalaya (Autonomous), Jalandhar. Panel discussion was aimed at exploring the relevance and application of IKS across various academic disciplines. The event, held under the aegis of the college’s ongoing efforts to integrate traditional wisdom with contemporary education, witnessed enthusiastic participation from faculty, scholars, and students. The panel discussion brought together eminent academicians and experts from diverse fields including sciences, humanities, commerce, and social sciences, each offering insightful
perspectives on how Indian Knowledge Systems can enrich and enhance modern academic curricula. The panel lists emphasized the holistic, interdisciplinary, and sustainable approaches embedded in IKS, highlighting its potential to address contemporary challenges in education, environment, ethics, and innovation. The Principal of KMV, Prof. Dr. Atima Sharma Dwivedi, in her inaugural address, emphasized the significance of Indian Knowledge Systems in building a self-reliant and culturally grounded academic framework. She highlighted KMV’s commitment to nurturing values, critical thinking, and a sense of rootedness among students through such initiatives. Students also participated in this discussion and talked on diverse topics including – scientific basis of traditional practices in Ayurveda and agriculture, literary and philosophical richness of ancient Indian texts, Mathematical and astronomical achievements in ancient India, Relevance of Indian ethics and values in modern management and commerce and Integration of IKS with NEP 2020 and its implications for interdisciplinary research. The session concluded with an engaging Question & Answer, where students posed thoughtful questions, reflecting their growing interest in IKS. The event was lauded for its intellectual depth, interdisciplinary approach, and its role in reviving interest in India’s rich academic heritage. Overall, the panel discussion was a significant step towards re-establishing the relevance of Indian Knowledge Systems in today’s educational landscape and strengthening the institution’s commitment to academic excellence rooted in cultural consciousness.
